About Romy Shum

I am a stylist trained in menswear and womenswear. London is my home and stomping ground.

I have always valued clothes. I grew up in London around them (it runs in the family) and despite building a career in finance, have found ways to remain close to them.

I search out clothes wherever I go. From prestigious department stores to the humble charity shop - I enjoy clothes in all its guises.

Our style evolves as we do. My services are designed to build fluency and confidence with clothes, putting you in a position to successfully navigate them for life.

Background

  • What I enjoy most is connecting with strangers and friends alike over clothes. At first friends would come to me for advice on clothes, which turned into me helping them sort through their wardrobe on weekends.

Whether the starting point was “I want to upgrade my work wardrobe” or “I realised I have work clothes and gym clothes but nothing in between”, I got used to helping people articulate their vision and translate it into real clothes and outfits. It felt great to be able to help people in such a personalised way.

  • Clothes are for everyone, but not everyone taps into their full potential. We are not really shown how to put together outfits or build a proper wardrobe. We learn mostly through trial and error, and not without expense.

My knowledge and interest in helping people with their clothes dovetails with my expertise in strategic thinking and execution, honed by working in the finance industry. The result: dressing with direction.

  • I work with you as an individual to understand your life circumstances and what you would like to achieve.

In a Style Workshop I go beyond cookie-cutter style personalities to uncover the nuances of individual style. Exploring the undercurrents of what speaks to you and why, we gain clarity on who you are and how you wish to present yourself.

In a Wardrobe Edit, we take a strategic approach and work through its contents to ensure it is structured optimally, in alignment with your life.

  • I steer clear of prescribing rules (“items you need for a capsule wardrobe”) or unthinkingly using a framework that does not ring true for you - that is too easy and not the work I like to do.

I do hope that spending time together will crystallise certain values:

    • Be selective - set high standards for what you let into your wardrobe (and life)

    • Style more and shop less - you will appreciate what you have and your wallet and planet will be better off for it

    • Buck throwaway culture - seek quality and durability, wear clothes for longer

My aim is for you not to need me after working with me. I work to open the door to insights and learnings that have a lasting impact beyond my sessions.

Style + Strategy = Perfect Wardrobe Alchemy
